IT DEPARTMENT

My company is very nervous, and understandably so.  They’ve contracted an outside firm to come in and educate some of the guys from our IT department on the most effective disaster recovery plans.  Within the last few months several of the neighboring businesses have been affected by losses of data, some to the point of having to close their doors completely.  A fire ripped its way through the building next to ours destroying virtually all of the pertinent information of the six businesses contained within and forcing two of them to close up for good.  Then a computer virus wiped away all of the files form the computers in another business and computer theft took the files from another.  After seeing the damage that the loss of information had done to other businesses right in our area, my bosses didn’t want to waste another second on developing the tightest security possible for our files.  We are getting a new security system to ward off thieves, a back up generator, we’re going to be conducting two hard drive back ups a day and sending one set of disks to our corporate office six hundred miles away for safe keeping.  I almost feel safer at work now than I do at home.
