I always watch a show on the Discovery Channel called How Its Made. I like watching it, especially when it is about things that I like. I find it very interesting to watch, and some things I see, I never imagined that is how they would make those things. The other day I watched an episode where they showed how the make an end mill that they use for cutting in mills. They were made of tungsten carbide, which is a really strong material. To be able to fashion the end mills, they have to use industrial diamond to cut the tungsten carbide. They are made on Computer Numeric Control machines. They put the ram materials under high-pressure lubricants such as water or high-flashpoint oil. They use abrasive wheels mounted on spindles or several spindles to do the grinding inside the machine. It is really a high tech process that creates these strong cutters, which are used to cut strong metals. Even though I am not really interesting in the milling industry, I really enjoyed the show. I was impressed with how far advanced our technology really is, and left me in awe of our capabilities. I cannot wait for the next episode of the show.
