ADVANCEMENTS IN TECHNOLOGY

It amazes me that with all of the advancements in technology, especially in recent years that loggers are still using virtually the same cutting tools that they were decades ago.  I’ve been watching the new show “AxMen” on television and these guys are still using axes, log splitters and chainsaws to perform the bulk of their work.  Of course newer axes and chainsaws are of a bit better quality, but they are still essentially the same tools that require the same strength and skill to operate.  In almost every other industry, at least the ones that I can think of – the equipment used today is entirely different from the equipment used just ten years ago.  So I was very surprised to find that in an industry that is so laborious and dangerous that so very little advancement has been made in the every day tools that are used.  When watching the show and seeing the scars and serious injuries that these men have and suffer from really makes me think that there could be at least some improvements made in the area of safety, if not in speed or performance.  It’s certainly not a job that I’d be interested in applying for, but I plan to continue watching the show, if for nothing else than curiosity.
